Mum grew lots of black currants in the front garden where she also grew selected herbs. The herb garden was to the west of the house, alongside the long flight of steps down to Mill Lane. A great spot, we used to sit on the sun-baked wall of the steps and watch Mum working in her favourite garden. Thats if Mum did not have us with her in the herb garden! The Jam: Ingredients: 36 oz of Armetriding Farm black currants 3 cups granulated sugar. 2 cups Of water (Armetriding Farm spring water is possible) Boil black currants in the water for about 30 minutes, or till soft. Add sugar, and boil till jam will jell, about 30 minutes. Cooking time varies with the amount Of fruit being cooked. Always use wooden spoon and a solid flat enamel pan. Armetriding Black Currant Jam is best when used in very large amounts on a youthful jam sandwich! (my lovely old jam buttie!)
